Google Chrome – do not bother.

Read “leak” in the morning, an hour ago watched www.google.com/chrome under my lovely Ubuntu. It took me some time to decide to switch to win to install it before doing it tomorrow at work. And you know? Waste of time. Honestly. They did a good job – browser works fine, renders properly, rendering time is more or less the same as in Firefox. JavaScript runs with the same speed (no real profiling , just a gmail check). Conclusion? No reason to change. That’s it. Try harder Google!

Would be really interesting to have another browser – some complained that (seen on bbc website) we don’t need another browser. Well, we need one – otherwise Mozilla folks will get lazy .

What makes me even more sceptic about it is UI. For me it stinks like IE7. Hate that layout. Maybe it’s just personal preference. Not another cool thing from Google I’m afraid.

Anyway, Joomla! will of course participate this year (look for the updates here, I bet Wilco will post some info soon.
I encourage all of you to send your proposal for best OS project in the world as well as other projects. Hope time will allow to mentor this year as well, who knows…

Google please fix Google Toolbar, part 2

Few months ago I complained that the Google Toolbar Spell check feature doesn’t work with rich editors. They did another milestone since July 2005. Now, when you’ll try to run spell check when rich editor is running both things hangs, Firefox says “Hey, should I stop this bad JS running?”. Funny issue, can mess with the text in rich editor, be careful

As my english isn’t perfect I thought that Google Toolbar with form-check-spelling feature would help me a bit . It doesn’t work with tinymce. It doesn’t work with other rich editors I guess…
